Typical of Carnival, the staples are a Neapolitan sweet. Although traditionally they are prepared for Carnival, bars and pastry shops sell them throughout the year and for this reason it is not unusual to be able to eat them for breakfast on any day. Soft and fragrant, the staples can also be prepared in the Thermomix, left to rise and then fried in a large pan with oil.

Procedure for preparing the staples

Pour the water, the brewer's yeast, a pinch of sugar and the grated lemon peel into the jug: 15 sec vel2
Add the eggs, sugar, butter, vanilla, flour and salt: 30 sec at speed 6 and 2 min at speed. ear

Now roll out the dough on a floured pastry board with a thickness of half a centimeter
With a bowl cut the dough to obtain a circle and in the center make another circle with a smaller glass.
Gradually arrange the staples obtained on a surface sprinkled with flour.
Cover with a cotton cloth and let the staples rise for 2 hours.

After 2 hours, heat the peanut oil in a large pan.
Fry the staples turning them several times on themselves until they are uniformly golden.
Lift them with a slotted spoon and place them on absorbent paper to remove excess grease.
Immediately pass them in the sugar in which you have added a pinch of cinnamon.

Serve your staples still hot.
